Tess here - I'm super excited that we're releasing this episode of LTRT: After Hours. As I'm sure you'll notice from the episode, I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about this particular genre of game (4X = eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate). So many thoughts and feelings, in fact, that I wasn't even able to get to all of them in this episode! As such, I'm including some additional show notes and thoughts right here! 

Anyway, before I get into all that I need to let you all know that this episode comes with a content warning for racist descriptions of Indian people and discussion of purges, state violence, and slavery. This is a long and somewhat heavy episode that asks a lot of questions. I want to say 'I hope you enjoy it,' but I think what I actually hope for is that it makes you think about how games attempt to understand and express complicated ideas such as culture, influence, and state authority.
